Last night, The LAMP was proud to celebrate five years of bringing media literacy to over 1,400 youth, parents and educators throughout New York City. Roughly 150 supporters joined us at Galapagos Art Space as we marked the achievement by honoring media education pioneers Jean Kilbourne and Mark Crispin Miller in an awards ceremony hosted by Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead with live music by indie rocker Erin Barra.
But now we want to hear from you! What was your favorite part? Was it Lizz Winstead talking about her mother watching Fox News, or Jean Kilbourne beaming about the punk band named in her honor? Perhaps it was the fiery speech from Mark Crispin Miller, the surprise appearance of New York City Public Advocate Bill De Blasio, the champagne birthday toast from Lizz, the hand-crafted French hors d’oeuvres and desserts, the Beverly McKenna Scholarship Fund announcement, or maybe the wines selected just for us by Frederick Wildman & Sons. We also had emotional remarks from Executive Director D.C. Vito, Education Director Dr. Katherine Fry and LAMP Board Chairman Chris Hickman.
