Regardless of how you voted yesterday, I think we can all agree that it has been a bruising election season. Now that the results are in, I want to thank you for being with The LAMP and supporting our work to help young people process the complexities of democracy and media.
As of this morning, I’ve already received several emails from people saying this election has shown them how important work like The LAMP’s is. Again, no matter your personal politics, we have seen why media literacy is so vital for people to make informed, active decisions and to make their voices heard, not just on an election day, but every day. Here are just a couple of quotes from emails I’ve gotten today:
“I wanted you to know last night and the first thing this morning I thought of The LAMP. I thought of how important its work is, and how it is the next step forward.”
“We are seeing the results of people voting without understanding what is fact and what is fiction. We are seeing a blurred line between entertainment and news. We are seeing a country where people lack the critical thinking skills to know how to process the information they are receiving. We are seeing a news media that has continuously put a spotlight on the drama and the emotion and not the facts.”
We’re moving forward, and we want you with us. If you’re searching for a way to channel your post-election energy, I hope you’ll consider sharing it with The LAMP team.
