News from The LAMP!
LAMP tshirtThe school year may be ending, but The LAMP is full steam ahead with summer programming! By this time next month, we’ll be knee-deep in LAMPcamp at the Park Slope Armory and the Flatbush Y, fresh from the New York City Council Cyberbullying Summit, on our way to Philadelphia to do two presentations at NAMLE and putting the finishing touches on the very first NYC Digital Waves Youth Media Festival. Check the LAMPpost blog often and follow us on Twitter to keep up. If you like what we’re doing, click here to show your support!

Highlight: Pentagon Papers, Unplugged
In June, we hit the 40th anniversary of when The New York Times began publishing what are now known as the Pentagon Papers, and set off one of the most important legal battles establishing the extent to which the US really has a free press. The anniversary of the government leak was honored with, well…a bigger, more purposeful government leak. Click here to learn more.

Spotlight: Jules Beesley, Film Editor and LAMP Volunteer
Jules Beesley is a professional film editor and director, and all of us at The LAMP (especially our students!) are thrilled to have him as a volunteer. He worked with us this spring in our news workshop at P.S. 107 in Brooklyn, and will join us again for our LAMPcamp summer program in July. Click here to learn more from him about independent filmmaking, working with George Lucas and why making media is such an important part of media literacy.
To help us continue our services as New York City’s only nonprofit organization giving free media literacy workshops to parents, youth and educators, please consider a small tax-deductible donation. Your donation goes to work immediately supporting workshop equipment, supplies, and administrative and facilitator fees.

Join us at the

INDEX Festival!

INDEX logoIn August, The LAMP will participate in the first INDEX Festival, a gathering of artists and groups that are changing digital culture. We’ll share more details next month, but in the meantime, help make INDEX possible through a donation on Kickstarter. Every bit helps!
