As the co-creater, former head writer and correspondent for The Daily Show, and the co-creator of Air America Radio, Lizz Winstead has changed the way millions of people receive and respond to the news. She’s also a seasoned performer, writer, satirist and activist for reproductive rights, and just announced her next show, “Bang the Dumb Slowly: The Unbelievable 2012 Race to the White House” on November 5th. Regarding her latest memoir, Lizz Free or Die, Comedian Patton Oswalt says, “Reading Winstead is like hanging out with Winstead: invigorating, infuriating and hilarious.”
So we’re thrilled to have Lizz host our birthday gala on Monday at Galapagos Art Space, and promise you an evening of wit and inspiration. Her background as a media producer and performer make her the perfect host to an evening with our Amplifier Award honorees, Jean Kilbourne and Mark Crispin Miller, and in recognizing The LAMP’s five years of teaching over 1,400 New Yorkers how to think critically about the media in their lives. Lizz is all about asking tough questions and being more than passive sponges, absorbing information and messages without really thinking about how and why we read, hear and see things the way we do. Check her out on MSNBC’s The Ed Show, talking about a certain Republican Congresswoman from Lizz’s home state of Minnesota:
