Black Friday is upon us, and you know what that means: more pressure to shop. Advertisers spent $17 billion this year marketing directly to children, and we know it can be hard to resist buying the branded merchandise the kids in your life are asking for.
That’s why for this year’s Annual Appeal, The LAMP is asking you to invest in something bigger: MediaBreaker/Studios.
MediaBreaker is the first-ever free online video editor that allows kids to talk back to commercials.
With a gift of just $25, you can help launch the MediaBreaker/Studios platform, which makes it easy for anyone to “break” commercials and other media messages, insert their own commentary, and share the remixed videos online.
Breaking videos isn’t just fun, it’s a great way to engage kids in critical thinking. Students get the power to remix the media they love (or love to hate!), learn valuable editing and tech skills, break down stereotypes, and challenge misinformation.
Your support will help us implement the wishlist of features we’ve been gathering from students and teachers who are testing the tool. We’ll be able to make MediaBreaker/Studios available nationwide, and train more teachers to use it in their classrooms.
So this Black Friday, you can skip the stores and invest in something everyone on your list will feel good about supporting.
Thank you, from all of us at The LAMP!
PS – If everyone reading this gave $25 (the cost of one “Shopping Barbie”) we could make MediaBreaker/Studios available to kids everywhere!
