Everyone knows the best part about the Super Bowl is watching the commercials. But what about breaking them?
At this one-of-a-kind Super Bowl party presented by The LAMP at the McBurney YMCA in New York City, teens will remix actual commercials airing during the game – breaking the media, changing the message. We’ll do it legally, using fair use guidelines and The LAMP’s own revolutionary remix editor, the Media Breaker. There will also be food, games, prizes and more to keep our teens fueled from kickoff to confetti while they learn how to create, edit and remix videos to make their voices heard about the media they see every day.
Even if you’re not a McBurney Y member or you won’t be in New York on game day, you can still participate from sites in Chicago, Pittsburgh and even your very own couch! Just email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and city, and we’ll contact you to get in on the action! You can also follow us on Twitter to catch broken Super Bowl commercials posted live during the game.
Think an ad is cruel to women? Break it to create a new message. Don’t like how people of color are portrayed? Call it like you see it when you remix the ad. Check out this break from one of 2013′s top Super Bowl ads:
Don’t miss the chance to talk back to media on the most important day of the year for advertisers. We can’t wait to see your broken commercials from all across the country and share your messages for change!
